In Test cricket, the left-handed opener is poised to become the fastest Indian batsman to reach 2,000 runs.
Both Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag, who both reached this milestone in 40 innings, share the current record.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Eyes Historic Milestone Ahead of 2nd Test Against England
Yashasvi Jaiswal has emerged as one of India’s most promising Test batters, and he now stands on the cusp of breaking a long-standing record held by legends like Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag.
Dravid reached this landmark in 1999 against New Zealand in Hamilton, while Sehwag followed in 2001 during a memorable match against Australia in Chennai. Now, over two decades later, Jaiswal has a golden opportunity to etch his name into Indian cricket history.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Jaiswal made his Test debut in July 2023 against the West Indies. Since then, he has scored 1,903 runs from 38 innings at an impressive average of 52.86. His consistency, flair, and maturity at the crease have drawn comparisons to some of the game’s greats.
Strong Start in the England Series
In the recently concluded first Test match at Headingley, Leeds, although India suffered a five-wicket loss, Jaiswal shone bright with the bat.
He scored a fluent 101 off 159 balls, showcasing class and composure before being dismissed by England captain Ben Stokes. This knock marked his fifth century in Test cricket, adding to an already remarkable career that includes 10 half-centuries.
However, in the second innings, Jaiswal couldn’t replicate his form, scoring just 4 runs off 11 deliveries, falling to Brydon Carse.
