Due to the absence of a designated smoking area, the Cubbon Park Police have filed a suo motu complaint against the establishment.

Legal Action Against One8 Commune Amid Bengaluru Police’s Special Drive
In a recent development, One8 Commune has come under legal scrutiny as part of Bengaluru Police’s intensified special drive. The Cubbon Park Police conducted a surprise inspection at the pub on Saturday, leading to the registration of a case against the establishment.
State-Wide Crackdown on Hookah Bars and Tobacco Access
This legal action aligns with the Karnataka government’s ongoing crackdown on hookah bars. As part of the new measures, the legal age for purchasing tobacco products has been raised from 18 to 21 years. This move comes under the framework of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, Supply and Distribution) Amendment Act, 2024.
A Pattern of Past Violations
One8 Commune has a history of regulatory issues. In June last year, the pub was booked for operating beyond its permitted hours. The troubles didn’t stop there. In December, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) issued a notice to the pub over multiple violations, including fire safety issues and the lack of a clearance certificate from the Fire Department.
Authorities Taking a Firm Stand
With the government tightening its grip on establishments flouting public safety and regulatory norms, actions like these signal a strong message to other pubs and bars operating across the city. Enforcement agencies are expected to continue such inspections in the coming weeks as part of a broader effort to ensure compliance.
