Virat Kohli eclipses Sachin Tendulkar with a record-breaking 50th ODI century.
By shattering his 50th century in One-Day Internationals, Virat Kohli has made history.
In the first semi-final of the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup against New Zealand at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, he crossed the three-figure mark.
Kohli has now overtaken Tendulkar’s stunning fifty-nine centuries to take the record for most centuries in the format.
In addition, he smashed several more records.

Cricket’s most tonnes in ODIs
Tendulkar was the only player in ODI cricket history to score 49 hundreds before to the current World Cup.
On March 16, 2012, during India’s Asia Cup match against Bangladesh, he reached this milestone. Tendulkar hit 114 in the penultimate ODI innings of his career, marking his 100th international century.
At last, Kohli has surpassed him, having only 10 tonnes in ODIs at the time.

Best individual result in the World Cup semifinals
Kohli struck 117 off 113 balls, scoring two sixes and nine fours in his innings.
In the ODI World Cup semi-finals, the Indian batter now holds the record for greatest individual score by a batter.
Sourav Ganguly was the only Indian player to achieve a century in this category prior to this (111* vs Kenya, 2003).
Notably, with a 105-run knock, Shreyas Iyer eventually joined Ganguly and Kohli.

In ODIs, more than 40 hundreds
In ODI cricket, only Tendulkar and Kohli have amassed more than 40 hundreds. Tendulkar is ranked number one on this list, followed by current Indian captain Rohit Sharma with 31 hundreds. The only other player in the format to reach the 30-ton threshold is Ricky Ponting of Australia.

the third-most in ODIs
Kohli surpassed Ponting’s record of 13,704 runs in the format while playing in his 291st ODI. In terms of ODI runs, he is currently only trailing Tendulkar (18,426) and Kumar Sangakkara (14,234).
While all other batsmen with at least 10,000 runs do not even average 51 in this style, Kohli averages over 58.
With his consistency in One-Day Internationals, Kohli has been absolutely phenomenal.
