Players with the most Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy wickets
The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy is one of the world’s most competitive domestic T20 tournaments.
Teams from all over the country competed for the title in the tournament.
While the batters are piling up runs, SMAT has seen the rise of some of India’s greatest limited overs bowlers.
In this section, we decode the top SMAT wicket-takers.

 

Baroda’s Lukman Meriwala
Lukman Meriwala, one of the most sought-after names in SMAT in recent seasons, has been very consistent for Baroda.
In the tournament, he has 94 wickets at 15.32 in 60 matches. The left-armer has three fifers and one four-wicket haul.
Meriwala finished the 2021 SMAT as the second-highest wicket-taker with 15 wickets.
He has taken 12 wickets this season.

Milind Chama, Hyderabad
Chama Milind, another left arm-pacer on the list, has been on fire for Hyderabad in recent years.
Milind has 96 wickets in 66 SMAT appearances at an average of 18.69. He has two fifers and two four-wicket hauls.
He was the highest wicket-taker in 2021, finishing with 18 wickets.
Milind’s 5/8 against UP is Hyderabad’s best SMAT bowling figures.

Saurashtra resident Jaydev Unadkat
Jaydev Unadkat, a domestic legend, is the third-highest wicket-taker in SMAT with 108 wickets.
With his bowling performances, the Saurashtra captain has led from the front.
He has an average of 17.25 and a monetary value of 6.76.
This season, Unadkat scored the game-winning goal against Arunachal Pradesh (4/6).
He has only eight wickets in seven matches in 2023 SMAT.

Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh’s Piyush Chawla
Piyush Chawla, the only spinner on the list, has mostly played for Uttar Pradesh before relocating to Gujarat in 2017.
Overall, the leggie is the second-highest wicket-taker in the SMAT, with 109 wickets from 86 appearances.
Last season, Chawla became the first bowler in SMAT history to reach 100 wickets.
He has a commendable average of 20.32 and a 6.78 economy.
