Jos Buttler: Interpreting his terrible World Cup 2023 statistics
Jos Buttler, the captain of England, is having a terrible tournament in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup. Against the Netherlands on Wednesday, November 8, he was only able to score five runs off of eleven balls.
His awful run of form with the bat is one of the main causes of England’s terrible run.
Interestingly, Buttler hasn’t scored a single fifty in the competition.
We interpret his forgettable stats here.

Why is this story important?
Known as the best batter England has ever had in white-ball cricket, Buttler has caused a lot of strong bowling attacks to have nightmares.

In addition to making quick runs towards the conclusion of the innings, the wicketkeeper-batter can also come through for the team in the event that the top order collapses.

But he has had a lot of difficulty competing.

Because of this, England, the reigning champions, have only triumphed in two of their first eight games.

These are his appalling stats.

Though he scored forty-three runs in England’s first-ever match against New Zealand, Buttler is yet to reach the 25-run threshold.

43(42), 20(10), 9(18), 15(7), 8(6), 10(23), 1(7), and 5(11) were his tournament scores.

Buttler has smashed 111 runs in eight matches, averaging 13.87 in the event.

This is his strike rate: 89.51.

Interestingly, England has already qualified out of the semifinals.

fifth-lowest skipper average in a World Cup edition

ESPNcricinfo reports that Buttler’s 2023 World Cup average of 13.87 is the fifth-lowest average for a skipper in a World Cup edition (minimum: seven innings).

Only Allan Border (8.57 in 1992), Habibul Bashar (13.12 in 2007), Hansie Cronje (12.25 in 1999), and Shahid Afridi (12 in 2011) are faster than him.

In ODI World Cups, Buttler has amassed 564 runs at a pace of 26.85.

A hitter alone who has this double

Buttler has amassed 4,934 runs at an average of 39.79 in 177 One-Day Internationals. There are 25 fifty and eleven tons in the total.

With a strike rate of 117.16, he ranks third among batters in the format with at least 1,000 runs.

Furthermore, Buttler is the only player in ODIs (minimum: 1,000 runs) with an average of 36 or higher and a strike rate of 110 or higher.
