IPL 2024: Shahrukh Khan, eye finishers, and all-rounders, released by PBKS
Before releasing Shahrukh Khan, a batter, Punjab Kings (PBKS) revealed their retention list in advance of the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in 2024.
The Kings retained their core group, cutting loose only four players.
Consequently, during the most recent auction, they were able to hold onto Sam Curran, who ended up becoming the most expensive player in IPL history.

Players that PBKS released
Before the 2024 Indian Premier League season, PBKS released the following players: Mohit Rathee, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Raj Bawa, Baltej Dhanda, and Shahrukh Khan. As of right now, they have not traded any players in or out. There is still time to trade through December 12th.

Retained players, purse balance, and slots
Retained players include Sam Curran, Sikandar Raza, Shivam Singh, Harpreet Brar, Arshdeep Singh, Nathan Ellis, Rahul Chahar, Vidwath Kaverappa, Harpreet Bhatia, Jitesh Sharma, Jonny Bairstow, Prabhsimran Singh, Liam Livingstone, Atharva Taide, Rishi Dhawan, and Sam Curran.
For the upcoming IPL auction, PBKS has 29.10 crore left in their purse.
Eight spots are available (2 overseas).

Prior to Shahrukh’s release, PBKS invested in him.
Shahrukh was an uncapped batter supported by PBKS for three years before he was released. He was selected by them and made his IPL debut in 2021.
With the ‘finisher’ tag under his belt, Shahrukh was again purchased by the Kings at the IPL 2022 auction. He was given a sizeable payment of Rs. 9 crore.
To date, he has only amassed 426 runs from 33 IPL games.

What will happen to PBKS next?
By letting go of Shahrukh, PBKS were able to acquire one of the top all-rounders in T20 cricket, Sam Curran.
But unlike Shahrukh, the latter is not a clear winner.
The management of PBKS will be searching for this position. During the 2023 Indian Premier League, Shahrukh hit an incredible 165.96 for the Kings.
They can also choose to purchase him back at the auction.
