At Newlands in Cape Town, pacer Jasprit Bumrah was instrumental in India’s historic Test victory over South Africa.
After taking just one wicket in the second innings of SA on Day 1, Bumrah finished with six wickets. India chased after SA, which folded for 176.
Bumrah notably declared that his bowling statistics were his third-best in Test cricket.

In this innings, Bumrah also achieved a hat-trick, making history as the third Indian to do so.
After Bumrah, no other Indian player has ever taken a hat-trick in the format.

Best Indian Test results at MCG
In 2018, Bumrah played a pivotal role in India’s historic triumph in the Boxing Day Test Abroad.
In response to India’s 443/7d, Australia was bowled out for 151, and the right-arm seamer picked up 6/33. Right now at MCG, these are the best Test results ever by an Indian.
Australia was unable to reach the 399 mark in the second innings as Bumrah claimed three wickets as well.

The least costly Test fifer made by an Indian
Days before, in the same series, Bumrah wrote history in North Sound, where he scored a hat-trick in Kingston.
Bumrah took 5/7 in the second innings in the series opener as WI tried to chase 419. They died within a hundred years.
In Test cricket, Bumrah’s five-wicket haul was the least expensive by an Indian player. The only other Indian with a fifer for fewer than ten runs is him.
