After winning the Champions Trophy, Shreyas Iyer accepts the title of "silent hero."
Following India’s March 9 victory in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, captain Rohit Sharma praised Shreyas Iyer as the team’s “silent hero.”
The phrase was used to characterize Iyer’s pivotal performance during the competition.
Iyer handled short ball tactics with skill and was resilient against spinners in spite of the difficult conditions in Dubai.
He was India’s leading run scorer with 243 runs at an average of 48.60 across five innings, ranking second in the competition overall after Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand.

Iyer considers his performance and appreciation. “When I talk about recognition, it’s about getting that respect,” Iyer told Times of India about his journey. It was about treating my efforts on the field with respect.” He admitted that sometimes his contributions may go unnoticed, but he was happy with his efforts.
“It wasn’t easy to take singles, especially when the bowlers were bowling so tight,” he added.

Mental strength
Iyer’s batting strategy and self-assurance Iyer stressed on his determination, saying: “I don’t come quietly (laughs). “Something else is going on in my mind as I come with all my heart.” He was certain that he would perform well in any circumstance. “Koi bhi situationmai bhejo, karke aauga” (Send me into any situation, and I’ll return after having fun in the middle) This mindset works for me and this confidence comes after facing rejections and failures,” he said.

Challenges
The journey of Iyer is a story of perseverance and self-confidence. Iyer proved his resilience by leading Kolkata Knight Riders to an IPL title last year, despite losing a central contract and his Test spot. Reflecting on his journey, Iyer said he was immensely satisfied to have overcome the challenges of the past year.
“To be honest, it has been a journey,” he stated, “and I have learned a lot in this phase of my life where I got out of the contract after playing the 2023 ODI World Cup.”

Future
Iyer’s future aspirations and mindset
Iyer stated that he wants to continue playing as much as possible in the future. “I would like to play as much as possible… I don’t want to think too much about it because the more I think, more mind will be taxed,” he said.
Meanwhile, Iyer now is all set to lead Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL).
He and the legendary Australian captain Ricky Ponting will collaborate closely.
