On his ICC Cricket World Cup debut, Afghanistan’s teen star Noor Ahmad took a critical three-wicket haul.
The left-arm wristspinner shone against Pakistan in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium in match number 22.
Afghanistan’s bowlers, led by Ahmad, limited Pakistan to 282/7 in 50 overs.
The Afghan spinner also recorded his best ODI statistics.

Ahmad snatches three wickets.
Ahmad, who was playing in his fourth ODI, was Afghanistan’s best bowler in the match. In 10 overs, he grabbed three wickets for 49 runs.
Pakistan was reduced to 110/2 after Ahmad dismissed the dangerous Abdullah Shafique.
In his following over, the Afghan spinner prevented Mohammad Rizwan (8) from scoring a century. Ahmad also stopped Babar Azam’s bid for a century.

According to Opta, Ahmed has the best stats by an Afghan bowler in his World Cup debut. Only Mohammad Nabi (4/30) and S Zadran (4/38) have taken more wickets in an Afghanistan in this tournament.

Who exactly is Noor Ahmed?
Noor debuted into the Afghanistan Under-19 team in 2019 and went on junior ODI trips to Sri Lanka and India.
He was eventually picked to Afghanistan’s 15-man roster for the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2020.
Noor took seven wickets in five games at the big stage, with an economy rate of 3.93. This featured a best of 3/30 against UAE (in a group-stage match).
